There are 50 million parents in today’s workforce and more dual-earner households, single parent homes and female breadwinners in 2018 than ever before.
Despite this, a recent survey from Ovia Health featured in NBGH’s recently released Parent Package found that only 65 percent of women working at companies with 1,000 or more employees feel supported in balancing their work and family lives.
The survey also found statistics that showcase more could be done to meet the mark:
These numbers matter to large employers, because attracting and retaining the right talent is a top priority. While nearly one in three women do not return to work for their large employer after having a baby, 40 percent said their employers could have done things differently, such as providing more flexibility, to keep them in the long run.
When new mothers feel supported by their employer, they are likely to return to work, decreasing the need for interviewing, hiring and onboarding a new employee– a process that costs companies significant time and money.
