This year’s theme is Dignity in Mental Health: Psychological and Mental Health First Aid for All.  “Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the help provided to a person developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The workplace is a natural fit for a focus on mental health in general, and mental health first aid in particular, because colleagues and managers may be the first to recognize the signs of mental health issues in their co-workers.

Over the last half century, suicide rates have increased by 60% in some areas of the world, particularly in developing countries. The causes of suicide are complex and varied. Risk factors include depression, substance abuse, previous suicide attempt(s), self-harm, abuse, violence, chronic pain, stressful life events and loss, as well as social, biological, environmental and cultural influences.
